A-Ma Temple

The most famous and picturesque temple in Macau ---and which helped give the city its name--- A-Ma consists of prayer pavilions on four levels, set into a hill that rises from the waterfront of the Inner Harbour. Linked by winding paths and moongates, the pavilions are dedicated to the Taoist Goddess of A-Ma (also called Tin Hau) and the Buddhist Goddess of mercy or Kun lam. At the entrance to the temple is a boulder on which is painted a Chinese junk, and just opposite is the Maritime Museum, which displays a diorama of the legend of A-Ma and picture of the festival held in her honour.
The temple has been a very popular subject for artists over the centuries. They include George Chinnery and Auguste Borget.

Lou Lim Ieoc Garden&Penha Church

Lou Lim Ieoc Garden
In the late 19th century a leading Chinese citizen, Lou Kau, built this garden in the classic Suzhou style, with miniaturized landscape of bamboo forests, pond-size lakes, moulded concrete mountains, viewing pavilions and moongates to frame the scence. He also constructed a Victorian-style house, where he entertained friends such as Dr Sun Yat-sen. When the family had to give up the garden it was taken over by the government and beautifully restored. Today it is immensely popular, with traditional martial arts and modern ballroom dance enthusiasts well as families who come to relax
Penha Church
Located at the southern end of the Macau Peninsula is Penha Hill, on which stands the imposing Bishop's Palace. It contains a small chapel, which is the final stop for the Procession of Our Lady of Fatima on May 13 th. The building replaces an original church which was a place of pilgrimage for sailors and travellers embarking on hazardous voyages in the palace is a spacious courtyard which offers excellent view of Macau, Praia Bay and Taipa Island.
